Server-side tracking recovers the data you're losing

Server-side tracking means measurement where events are recorded through your own server rather than the browser. It recovers the data that browser restrictions and blockers would otherwise lose, and gives advertising algorithms a reliable signal. We design and install server-side tracking end to end.

Mediashake is a senior specialist in server-side tracking. We build measurement that keeps its data quality even after cookie restrictions and browser privacy changes.

What server-side tracking is and why it's becoming standard

Traditional measurement happens in the browser, where blockers, browser restrictions and the short life of cookies lose a growing share of the data. In the server-side model, events pass through your own server container, so measurement holds up considerably better against these limits.

The practical benefit shows up in two places: reporting is more complete, and the ad channels' algorithms get more conversion data, so they optimize better on the same budget.

When server-side tracking is worth it

  • You invest significantly in advertising and want to maximize the signal to the algorithms
  • Conversions are getting lost to blockers and browser restrictions
  • You want privacy and data control in your own hands

How Mediashake builds server-side tracking

Design

We map out what to measure, which channels the data goes to and how consent is handled. The solution is sized to your needs.

Setup

We stand up the server container (for example on the Stape platform), connect Google Analytics and the ad channels, and test that every event is recorded correctly.

Verification

We compare the data before and after, so the benefit shows up in the numbers and not just in promises.

FAQ

What is server-side tracking good for in practice?
More complete conversion data improves both reporting and ad optimization. When the algorithms get more accurate signal, the same media budget typically performs better.
Does server-side tracking replace Google Analytics or Tag Manager?
It doesn't replace them, it complements them. Server-side measurement is usually built with a Tag Manager server container, and the data still flows to Google Analytics and the ad channels, just by a more reliable route.
Is server-side tracking better for privacy?
It gives you better control over what data is sent to the channels, and lets you handle things like IP addresses by your own rules. It doesn't remove the need for consent: Consent Mode is built in as part of the whole.
What does it cost to set up server-side tracking?
The cost comes from a one-off setup plus a small monthly fee for the server container. The scope depends on the number of channels, and you'll get a precise estimate in the discovery session.
